Frequently Asked Facelift Questions
The Center for Cosmetic & Reconstructive Surgery
How long will my facelift last?
Your facelift will not stop the signs of aging, but it will turn the clock back on aging that has already occurred. So, for example, if your facelift takes ten years off your appearance, you won't always look the same, but you should always look about fifteen years younger than you would have without the facelift.
Is a facelift right for me?
A facelift is designed primarily to target excess skin and wrinkling in the cheeks, neck, and jowls, or jawline. If these are your primary problem areas, and if you have realistic expectations regarding what cosmetic surgery can do for you, you may be an ideal candidate for a facelift.
Before reaching any final decision, however, it is important that you discuss the procedure fully, so you know what to expect.
How does a modern facelift work?
Unlike the traditional facelift, in which the facial skin is simply pulled tight over the face, the modern facelift tightens not just the skin, but the underlying facial muscles as well. This minimizes sagging, lifts the cheeks and other features, and restores more youthful proportions to the face.
Will I have scars?
Most patients have minimal scarring following a facelift procedure. The scars are placed so that they're obscured by the hairline and the natural contours of the face, depending on the type of procedure you're having done.
Can I have a facelift in conjunction with another procedure?
Yes. Depending on the procedures you'd like done, many can be combined with the facelift procedure, allowing you to maximize your immediate results and minimize the time spent healing from both procedures. Many patients, for example, choose to have facial implants in conjunction with their facelifts, to enhance the youthful appearance.
