Frequently Asked Rhinoplasty Questions

The Center for Cosmetic & Reconstructive Surgery

Is rhinoplasty permanent?

The nose doesn't change significantly during the aging process, so the effects of a rhinoplasty are effectively permanent.

How long will recovery from rhinoplasty take?

Depending on the type and extent of the procedure, you may be mostly recovered from a rhinoplasty anywhere from a couple of days to a couple of weeks following surgery. For a day or two, you will probably feel stuffy, like you have a head cold, but this should subside within a couple of days. Bruising and swelling, however, may increase over the first couple of days following surgery, and will fade significantly in a couple of weeks.

Can rhinoplasty correct a broken nose?

Yes. Depending on the type and severity of the break, rhinoplasty may be able to reduce or eliminate the physiological and cosmetic effects of a broken nose.

How do I determine the right size and shape for my nose?

The answer to this question depends on your existing facial proportions, physical factors, and your own aesthetic preferences. With his experience in aesthetics in general and rhinoplasty specifically, board certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon, Dr. Kotis may be able to assist you in your decision.

Is rhinoplasty right for me?

Rhinoplasty is an excellent option for people who have cosmetic problems with their nose, or who suffer from breathing problems caused by structural issues with the nose. However, it's not for everyone. It is not recommended, for example, for children who are still growing, as changes made during the procedures can often be affected by future growth. It is also not recommended for patients who have unrealistic expectations of the procedure, or who have certain types of health problems.
