Brow Lift in Chicago and Arlington Heights, IL
Aging gracefully is something we’d all like to achieve, but finding the right balance can be difficult. The brow lift procedure is a subtle, effective way to restore a youthful appearance to the face and eyes. Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. John A. Kotis offers the brow lift, or forehead lift, procedures to the residents of Chicago, Arlington Heights and surrounding Illinois communities.
What is a Brow Lift?
As we age, it’s natural for gravity to take a toll on our skin, particularly on our face. The aging process can result in sagging skin on the forehead and eyebrows, which can be visually unattractive, but also problematic for more serious reasons like impaired vision. The brow lift procedure is designed to correct sagging or wrinkled skin near the brow and on the forehead caused by aging.
The Brow Lift Procedure
A brow lift procedure can eliminate lines and wrinkles in the upper region of the face. Furrows and creases may smooth out after a brow lift surgery. Brow lifts are often combined with a facelift for optimum facial results.
Surgical Approaches to the Forehead Lift
A brow lift can be performed in a few different ways; patients may choose between an open procedure or a closed procedure. The brow lift approach may yield different results.
- Open Procedure – during an open brow lift, Dr. Kotis makes an incision near the ear towards the hairline to minimize the appearance of an incision scar. Dr. Kotis then reshapes the muscles and tissue near the brow line. He tightens the skin and trims away tissue for a tighter appearance.
- Endoscopic Brow Lift – an endoscopic brow lift can limit scarring and achieve similar results. Instead of one long incision, Dr. Kotis makes a few short incisions along the forehead. A small fiber-optic camera is fed through these incisions to improve visibility. Using small surgical instruments, Dr. Kotis then makes the proper muscle and tissue alterations.
Recovery from the Brow Lift Procedure
Depending on the technique chosen, brow lift recovery may vary. For many patients, incisions take approximately two weeks to heal. After those 14 days, patients may feel ready to return to work or previous activity. For complete healing, including the fading of scars and swelling, it may take a few months.
