Kotis offers rhinoplasty to residents of Chicago, Arlington Heights and surrounding Illinois communities.
The Rhinoplasty Procedure
Rhinoplasty, or nose surgery, is performed to alter the shape or function of the nose. During a procedure, the nose may be reshaped for aesthetic appeal, including altering the bridge, tip, and nostril width. Rhinoplasty can also be used to improve breathing by correcting a deviated septum and other structural obstructions. Please come into the office and learn about Dr. Kotis’s surgical approach to rhinoplasty.
Rhinoplasty can be performed in two ways: open or closed. Which technique used depends on the reason for surgery.
- Closed Rhinoplasty – A closed rhinoplasty approach can be used to alter or correct the interior of the nose. All incisions made during a closed procedure are made within the nostrils. This prevents scars from being visible. A closed rhinoplasty can be used for small nose adjustments.
- Open Rhinoplasty – An open rhinoplasty, as opposed to a closed rhinoplasty, uses incisions on the outside of the nose. This approach allows for more access to the nose tissue. An open rhinoplasty may be used to correct deeper structural problems of the nose. Patients with breathing problems tend to require this approach.
Recovery times will vary based on the severity of the procedure and the technique used. Patients should expect a longer recovery time for more complex procedures. A closed rhinoplasty may heal more quickly than an open rhinoplasty.
After nose surgery, patients will notice swelling and some bruising for the first few weeks. Dr. Kotis may also place bandages or packing in the nose to prevent bleeding. During this time, patients should try to avoid sneezing or putting additional pressure on the nose. Over the next few weeks, scars will heal, and patients can enjoy the new look and feel of their nose.
