If you’re frustrated by stubborn fat in the stomach region, a tummy tuck in Chicago with Dr. Kotis can deliver smooth, firm and long-lasting results.
Also known as an abdominoplasty, the tummy tuck is designed to tone and flatten abdominal loose skin that is not responsive to diet and exercise. During the procedure, Dr. Kotis tightens lax stomach muscles, removes unwanted fat and trims away excess skin.
A tummy tuck, also known as abdominoplasty, offers both cosmetic and functional improvements that can significantly enhance your quality of life. In addition to the aesthetic benefits, this procedure can also provide physical relief from issues such as back pain or posture problems caused by weakened abdominal muscles. They include:
Sculpt a slimmer abdomen
Improve the appearance of stretch marks
Tighten lax skin and muscles
Enhance your self-esteem
Wear clothing and swimwear with confidence
Restore a more youthful appearance
Dr. Kotis can transform your figure – especially if you have excess abdominal loose skin due to the natural aging process, genetics, substantial weight loss, a C-section or a pregnancy.
However, a tummy tuck is not right for all of our patients.
In general, the best candidates for a tummy tuck in Chicago with Dr. Kotis are:

“I had a tummy tuck done by Dr. Kotis 8 weeks ago and it was one of the best things I've ever done. At the initial consultation, Dr. Kotis took his time and made sure all of my questions were answered and concerns addressed. Everyone on his team is warm and friendly, and they made sure that I was comfortable and happy throughout the entire process. Surgery day was smooth and I recovered well. Dr. Kotis even called to check in on me later that night. My post-operative care has been wonderful. Although there is obvious swelling, the results from this surgery are immediate and amazing, and it continues to look better every day... better than I ever imagined. Dr. Kotis is an incredible surgeon; he and his team made this whole experience so much better than I hoped! I am so happy with the results and I would recommend him to anyone.

The traditional, or full, tummy tuck is one of the most popular procedures among our Chicago patients. The surgery requires two incisions – one near the bikini line and another near the naval.
Through those openings, Dr. Kotis will remove excess stomach skin and fat. He will then tighten the underlying stomach muscles to create a toned appearance. In most cases, he will also reposition the belly button to a more natural location on the stomach.
The mini, or partial, abdominoplasty is popular among patients with a limited amount of excess volume to address. It requires just one incision along the bikini line.
With this approach, Dr. Kotis exclusively targets the area below the belly button. Through one discreet incision, he will remove unwanted fat, tighten lax skin and create a toned lower abdomen. This is called a Mini Tummy Tuck.
As a leading tummy tuck surgeon, your abdominoplasty in Arlington Heights with Dr. Kotis will be done under general anesthesia. As such, you will be completely sedated and unconscious throughout the experience. You can expect the entire surgery to take between 90 minutes and a few hours, depending on the extent of the procedure.
The surgery will begin with Dr. Kotis creating the incisions, which will be strategically placed to ensure that your scars are discreet. Through those openings Dr. Kotis will perform his signature Slim Line Abdominoplasty where he will remove unwanted fat, tighten lax muscles and trim away excess skin. In many cases, he will also change the position of your belly button so that your newly tightened skin looks as natural as possible.
Once your toned abdomen has been achieved, Dr. Kotis will close the incisions with sutures and place 2 surgical drains. The drain will speed up the healing process and prevent painful fluids from building up beneath the skin.
When you wake up, you will be taken to the recovery room where we will monitor you closely. Once you are cleared to return home, you will need to have a friend or family member drive you.
The extent of your recovery will depend largely on whether you had a full or a mini tummy tuck performed.
However, here is a general overview of what to expect as you heal:
Rest at home for two to six weeks until the healing process is mostly complete.
Light walking is permitted as soon as possible to promote healing.
Avoid strenuous activity until you’re cleared by Dr. Kotis.
Empty your surgical drains two to three times a day.
Wear your compression garments as directed.
A traditional tummy tuck involves removing excess skin, tissue and fat, tightening abdominal muscles, and creating a smooth, flat tummy. This is a custom surgical procedure planned for you as an individual, based upon the aesthetic issues you need to resolve. Every person is different in the quantities of excess skin, fat, and tissue that must be removed. Most people who want a slimmer, trimmer look can achieve the look with a traditional tummy tuck, while others will require a “full tummy tuck.”
The difference in a full tummy tuck (or extended tummy tuck), is essentially the quantity of excess loose skin that must be removed. A full tummy tuck involves a longer incision, and addresses the drooping skin, fat, and tissue both on the abdomen, and on love handles. For those who have a large quantity of excess skin in these zones, a full tummy tuck will be the appropriate procedure for body contouring.
Tummy tuck costs will vary depending on the extent of surgery. This procedure can vary among patients and is different depending on the desired outcome.
At a consultation with Dr. Kotis, he will listen to your goals, make suggestions for the procedure accordingly and give you an estimated tummy tuck cost for the agreed upon procedure. Our office proudly offers financing options and accepts cash, credit card and check for payment. Visit our financing page for more information.
A tummy tuck may be best utilized if packaged with other procedures:
It may be the best utilization for you, both financially and for an overall look, to package your tummy tuck within a full mommy makeover procedure which Dr. Kotis specializes in delivering.
Some scarring is inevitable after surgery with even the best tummy tuck surgeon Chicago has to offer. However, most scars become lighter and flatter over time, and all of your incisions will be carefully placed to ensure an optimal outcome.
While it is advised that you delay tummy tuck surgery until after you are done having children, surprises can happen, or people change their minds and want another child. If you do get pregnant after your tummy tuck, it should not cause you any problem carrying your baby to term – but the growing baby could once again stretch skin, muscle, and tissue, which is why we advise waiting until your childbearing days are over to undergo a tummy tuck. If a pregnancy occurs, affecting your abdomen, a surgery can be performed, although many patients may not require revision surgery.
After surgery, it is normal to have some soreness, swelling, and bruising, as well as some changes in sensation, all of which are temporary. Most tummy tuck patients will be able to return to work within one to two weeks following the surgery, if the work duties do not include any vigorous physical activity. If your procedure included tightening the muscles in the lower abdomen, you will need to walk in a slightly bent position for about two weeks to avoid putting stress on the incision.
You will need to wait in the range of four to six weeks to return to strenuous activities such as an exercise program, although you should take gentle walks starting the day following surgery to aid circulation and speed healing. The soreness will continue for several weeks but is easily managed with prescription pain medication in the early stages, followed by over-the-counter pain medication.
A tummy tuck involves removing excess skin and tissue from the lower abdomen. You will be under general anesthesia and will not feel any pain or discomfort during the procedure, which requires about one to two hours to complete. While you are unconscious from the anesthesia, our plastic surgeon will make a small incision at the bikini line. Once the incision is made, excess fat will be removed, and loosened or separated muscles tightened, and excess skin removed (often the location of most of stretch marks). When necessary, some excess fat may be removed with liposuction during the procedure.
As long as you maintain a healthy weight and live a healthy lifestyle, including exercise, your results will last for years. If you gain a significant quantity of weight or become pregnant, the results will be affected, as the skin, muscles, and tissues will once again stretch. Essentially, this change is for a lifetime if you take care of yourself and avoid gaining weight.
