Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections harness the body’s natural regenerative properties to rejuvenate aging skin.

What Is PRP?

PRP stands for platelet-rich plasma – a natural product found in the body. It is obtained by drawing a small amount of blood, placing it in a centrifuge, and spinning it at a high speed to separate the platelets and the plasma from the rest of your blood cells.

In this potent form, PRP has powerful healing properties. Once injected back beneath your skin, it stimulates the production of restorative collagen and helps the body’s cells regenerate more quickly.

The Benefits

  • Improve skin texture

  • Restore lost volume

  • Minimize fine lines and wrinkles

  • Smooth acne scars

Your Injections:

What to expect

Your PRP injections will be done in the comfort and privacy of Dr. Kotis’s Chicago office. The entire process will take about 30 minutes – including preparation time and the actual injections. You will be free to resume your normal daily routine as soon as you’re comfortable being seen in public.

When you arrive at our office, we will draw a small vial of blood, just as we would during routine blood work. We will then spin the blood in a centrifuge to separate the growth factors, platelets and plasma from the rest of your blood. Once the PRP is obtained, we will inject it into your skin using a very fine needle.

Although you will see an improvement in the appearance of your skin after just one treatment, most of our patients require three sessions spaced one month apart for optimal results.

Your Results

PRP injections produce incredible results that appear gradually. Maximum collagen production occurs three months after your initial treatment, at which point you should see visibly plumper skin, along with reduced fine lines and wrinkles.

You can expect your results to endure for about two years, with most patients requiring touch-up treatments to maintain their new look.

What are the side effects?

Because PRP is a natural substance taken from your own body, there are very few side effects associated with these injections – and there is no risk of an allergic reaction. At the very most, you may experience:

  • Redness for 48 hours

  • Swelling and bruising for about one week

You can minimize these effects by keeping your skin hydrated with moisturizer and applying sunscreen several times a day.
