Dimples are a charming and coveted facial feature. If you weren’t fortunate enough to be born with them, a simple cosmetic procedure can create natural-looking dimples that enhance your smile.
A dimple is a cheek indentation that emerges when people smile. It is a hereditary trait that results from a small opening in the cheek muscle. Viewed as a sign of beauty, good luck and good fortune by many cultures, dimples are a sought-after feature that can be created with a minimally-invasive cosmetic procedure.
Create a more welcoming smile
Enhance your natural beauty
Restore a more youthful facial appearance
30-minute procedure
Done under local anesthesia
Minimal downtime and recovery
Dimple surgery is an outpatient procedure that is done under local anesthesia, which means you will be awake and conscious throughout the experience. To begin, Dr. Kotis will mark the precise location of your new dimples and administer a topical anesthetic to numb the area and ensure your comfort.
Once the anesthetic has taken effect (about ten minutes after it was administered), Dr. Kotis will create small incisions inside your mouth. Through those openings, he will remove a minute amount of muscle and fat to create a tiny hole in your cheek. He will then connect the two sides of the hole with a suture to set your new dimple in place.
Once your dimples have been created, Dr. Kotis will close your incisions with dissolvable sutures and you will be free to return home immediately.
Dimple surgery is associated with a brief and very straightforward recovery period. Your main priority during this time will be to prevent an infection and keep the surgical site clean. Here is what to expect:
Here is what to expect
Take your prescribed antibiotics as directed to prevent an infection
Most patients can return to work and school within two days
Treat any discomfort with your prescribed pain medication
Avoid exaggerated facial expressions for a few days
Minimize any post-surgical swelling with ice packs
Use an antiseptic mouthwash several times a day
For several weeks, your new dimples will be very prominent at all times – even when your face is at rest. This is normal. As the healing process progresses, your dimples will relax into their final shape and will soon only appear when you are smiling.
Because all of the incisions are made inside the mouth, there will be no visible, external scarring from dimple surgery. You will need to return to Dr. Kotis’s Chicago office within a few weeks so that he can monitor your progress and assess your results.
