Microdermabrasion in Chicago and Arlington Heights, IL
If you are looking for a quick touch-up to the tone of your skin, the microdermabrasion treatment performed by a board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. John A. Kotis, may be right for you. Treating patients for over 15 years, Dr. Kotis looks forward to helping Chicago, Arlington Heights and surrounding community residents achieve their perfect look.
What are Microdermabrasion Treatments?
Microdermabrasion treatments use a minimally abrasive instrument, which gently sands your skin and removes the uneven outer layer. It works on all skin colors and types. The changes from a microdermabrasion treatment are subtle and do not cause changes in skin color. A microdermabrasion treatment is also not very effective with deep skin issues, such as wrinkles.
There are two techniques for microdermabrasion exfoliation. The first technique uses a hand-held device, which streams tiny crystals across your skin for exfoliation and dead skin is then suctioned into an attached vacuum. The latest technique uses a diamond-tipped wand that is moved over your skin for exfoliation.
The Microdermabrasion Difference
Unlike dermabrasion, which requires numbing, this is a gentle procedure that is perfect for discoloration, light scars, damage from the sun and stretch marks. Microdermabrasion also helps with improvement to age spots, hyperpigmentation, blackheads, wrinkles, and lines. If you have enlarged pores or have scars left from acne, microdermabrasion will help you reduce or eliminate these skin issues. Microdermabrasion can also be used for treating acne.
Am I a Candidate for Microdermabrasion?
Microdermabrasion is typically safe for all skin types and skin tones. It is important to arrive with realistic expectations of projected treatment outcomes. If you are looking to reduce the look of medium to deep fine lines and wrinkles, a microdermabrasion treatment may not be the best choice. A personal consultation with Dr. Kotis is recommended to learn whether this treatment is right for you.
What are the results?
Lasting about 30 minutes, a microdermabrasion procedure thickens your collagen, resulting in refreshed and glowing skin. The results are long-lasting, depending on how severely your skin was damaged and the number of treatments you have.
What is the recovery from microdermabrasion?
Following your microdermabrasion treatment, you may feel a mild scratching. Your skin will be pink, tight and feel dry for the first 24 hours after treatment. There are some makeup products that must not be applied during this period, and Dr. Kotis may recommend a special moisturizer or another facial product for enhancing and prolonging your results.
There is no recovery time period following your microdermabrasion procedure. You may go back to your normal activities immediately following your appointment. Since the treatment does not require any numbing medicine, the associated risks and complications are very low.
Keeping Up Appearances
You must avoid exposure to the sun for a few days after your microdermabrasion treatment, and continuous use of moisturizers and sunscreen will help you retain your results. To maintain results, most people undergo microdermabrasion twice a month in the beginning, and then once a month to maintain results.
What is the Cost of a Microdermabrasion Treatment?
Microdermabrasion treatments are considered elective procedures, so most health insurance policies do not cover the cost of treatment. The offices of Dr. Kotis offer many great, affordable payment options, including financing through our partners, CareCredit® and Prosper®. Other acceptable forms of payment include cash, personal check, and most major credit cards.
