Breast Augmentation
Breast augmentations are one of the most popular and often requested breast procedures among Dr.Kotis’ patients. Patients seeking breast augmentation may wish for larger, fuller breasts, or to create a more proportionate body profile. Some women may experience visible changes in their breasts due to aging or breastfeeding, and want a more youthful look. As varied as our patients’ bodies are, there is no one-procedure-fits-all regarding breast augmentations. From the type and material of implant, to the incision site, to even the implant placement, there are many options to suit each patient’s requirements and lifestyle. A thorough consultation will help each patient determine the customized procedure that will provide them with their best results.
Breast Lifts
Also known as mastopexy, a breast life procedure is designed to reverse the drooping and sagging of the breasts, and even reduce the size of the areola, if the patient desires it. As women age or breastfeed, their breast tissue may begin to sag, losing its natural, youthful placement. A skilled surgeon can combat this by making an incision around the areola and removing excess tissue; this allows the breast to be placed higher and feel firmer, and the nipple will also be in a higher position upon the breast. These all help to restore a firm, youthful profile to the breast. Breast lifts can also be done in conjunction with breast implants to create larger breasts.
Breast Implants
There is a large variety of breast implants available on the market today for patients considering a breast augmentation. Breast implants can vary in their material, size, and shape, and all these factors contribute to the patient’s overall satisfaction with the procedure. First, breast implants are made of either saline or silicone, with advantages and disadvantages to both. Second, breast implant size is a very important choice, as the size needs to complement each patient’s body to provide natural, fuller looking results. Finally, breast implants can be either anatomical, closely resembling the shape of a natural breast, or round, which also comes in higher or lower profiles. A thorough consultation with the surgeon is necessary to help each patient choose the implant that will be the best for their specific situation.
Breast Reconstruction
For women who have lost one or both breasts due to disease, tissue trauma, or a preventative mastectomy, breast reconstruction surgeries can help them regain their figure and confidence. The complete, overall breast reconstruction process can involve many steps, and each patient may want to take a different variety of reconstruction to suit their needs. First, sufficient replacement skin must be procured to cover the new breast mound. This can either be from an incremental skin expansion procedure, or from donor skin. The implant process itself, after the replacement skin is found, is identical to a regular breast augmentation, with the same varieties of breast implants available. The next step in this process is nipple reconstruction, using excess skin and tattooing to create a nipple and areola. Further,if a patient has an existing natural breast, they may often desire additional surgical work to create symmetry between the breasts.
